I guess I just don't listen to Deal all that much these days. And I've never really been a big fan of the various years when they really got it cookin'. Honestly I rarely if ever listen to 1st sets or "1st set material" in general these days, especially any from the 80's. I find whenever I pull out any GD, it's pretty rare I take the time to listen to a full show. I usually just listen to the jams. The "songs" are all good and well, I love 'em all too, but my favorite thing about the Dead has always been the heavily improvised material. Or perhaps after 20 years or whatever I just can't take too many more versions of Promised Land and Tennessee Jed and all those other songs that are great songs but were played hundreds of times.
